LLC: $6,701 Donated ($33,300 left)

17% of our Goal 

Read-a-Thon: totals are not in but we have met our minimum target of 1,500 books

The winner from the list was Vesuvios, then Mad Mexican, the works, and finally Pizza Hut.

Requested restaurants were; The Alpine, Indie Ale House, A&W, Gabby’s etc….

Parent Social

The organizer is Victor Bigio - currently recruiting other organizers. The timeline will be early May. Location TBD. Cost TBD.

FunFair Status Update:

Have one donation valued between $500-1000, 1 silent auction item

The contract has been signed to use the same vendor as last year for the bouncy castles

Bouncy Castles are: inflatable carnival, ice cream bouncer, wrecking ball, bungee run, tiger belly combo, mega obstacle challenge

Movie Night Update:

Application Price & Pricing is being reviewed

Communications

Mission Statement has been written and posted on the Parent Council Website as well as the Facebook Group Page

Code of Conduct has been collected and will be pinned to the Facebook Group.

APPENDIX A - Principals Report 

Animal Flow – Yoga – interactive wellness presentations for Kindergartens and grade ½ (last Tuesday and today) – children engaged and relaxed

Peer Leaders – Wellness Assembly this coming Friday for K’s and 1’s

ETFO Update – Teacher’s job action Jan. 20th – rotating strikes until a settlement is reached – withdrawal of services – no extra-curriculars before/after school, teachers arrive half an hour before and leave 15 minutes after school. 
Safety – always our priority – staff are vigilant and proper procedures are taken any time we deem necessary (review letter re: stranger on the yard)

Allergy Awareness 

  • ASPS/HPAS are allergy aware schools – no nuts, tree nuts, coconut, scent free

  • No food sharing at all in classrooms

  • Please no food for birthdays (if you want to send something, send stickers, pencils, erasers etc.)

  •  All staff have yearly training (Sabrina’s Law) and must sign off on this

  • Public Health to come and do presentations in primary classrooms

  • Request for Parent Council to bring in a presenter (Kyle Dine?) in September (cost for 2 presentations would be $950.00)

  • Parent handbook to be updated to state: coconut 

Report Cards – no first term reports this year – letter sent home today from the board; no interviews on the Thursday evening/but teachers expected to offer parents time on Friday Feb. 14th (PA Day)

Feb. 7th – HPAS Big Chill - tentative

Feb. 13 – Parent/Teacher Interviews – evening ***cancelled

APPENDIX B - STEM Report 

Item #1:  Stem Club (HPAS)

How to sign up?

The student (Gr4 to Gr7) will be asked to join an information session during their lunch period.  For those who are interested, a form will be sent home so that they can join the STEM Club after school hours

Format of the Club:

4 Lessons

1) Scientific Method – Running an experiment

2) Flights

3) Biology – Experiments 

4) Coding – Message display on International space station

Right now we have two teachers, spaces, materials

Item #2:  Guest Speaker

Speaker for Parent in Mathematics, empowering parents in teaching their kids in Math  

Item #3 Coding Club – Chromebook (Gr7/8) 

A Coding Club has started for Gr7 and 8.  The student will be learning python to start with, but not limited to Javascript, Scratch.  This is a good starting point to restart the lego robotic clubs.

Let’s Talk Science

Same Format as last year.  One issue was the chaos in the beginning.  We may need to revisit that so to contain the chaos.

Parent Involvement – Parent leaders for science demonstration.
