SIP (School Improvement Plan) Overview (see website for full SIP)

-SIP was prepared by Principal, Vice Principal, teachers and support staff. -based on classroom data and EQAO results.

-Improve wellbeing and mental health through mindfulness, peer leaders and well being surveys. Academic goals:

1. Early years literacy.
2. Mathematics; more meaningful math, interventions, early years math, smaller group instructions.

-7/8 Students have been participating in Leadership Wellness & Mental Health Symposium with Ms.Harvey; parents willing to provide rides could mean that more students participate.

- High School Open Houses: ongoing for Gr. 8 students

Teacher’s Report

- All primary classes have visited the local library. -Upcoming Christmas concert.

-Some Junior classes perform in Christmas concert, some in Spring concert, so check to see if your child’s class is performing.

Fundraising/Fun Fair

-Update on new fundraising campaigns, read-a-thon, dance party.
- Small group brainstorms on improving FunFair and creative fundraising.

-Library Commons initiative was launched.
-Parents invited to support the school through Chipotle Dinner and proposed Marlies game. -Early planning and parent volunteers key to FunFair’s success.

-Involve community through local business sponsorship and donations.

Budget

-Motion for budget was passed.

Parent Engagement

-Discussed different, non-financial ways that parents can participate.

-Parent reps and council attendees asked to encourage parents to share their skill/passion with a class.

Principal Report – Nov 19, 2019

  1. Thank you to Parents for feeding the staff on Thursday Night for interviews. A ‘Chili Bar’ was provided by Dirty Food on Dundas St. and was thoroughly enjoyed

  2. Progress Reports and Interviews – Nov 12-15

  3. Equal Play – A workshop for Girls on the importance of staying active is being

    run by former Canadian Soccer player Carrie Serwetnyk tomorrow

    (Wednesday) for interested girls.

  4. Gr. 7/8 Student Leadership Wellness & Mental Health Symposium (Ms Harvey)

  • 5 students (3 HPAS, 2 ASPS)

  • Run by LC4 Student Senate

  • Students could choose various workshops (e.g., Mental Health & Well-being,

    Equity & Social Justice, Time Management, Well-being & Financial Literacy)

  • Students took part in 4 workshops each

  • Key note speaker – Unstoppable Tracy showed that anything is possible

  • Students will bring their learning/knowledge back to the school and share with

    Peer Leaders & peers

  2. Grade 8 Grad Trip info night for parents - Ottawa

  3. Sports – hosted Grade 5/6 Basketball tournament today, Grade 7/8 Boys

    Volleyball – Thursday, Gr 7/8 Girls Basketball – Friday, exhibition Boys’ Jr volleyball game (Tuesday after school) – winter commitment forms have come out

  4. Gr 7/8 (Ms Shaw) – 10 students to the ‘Envision Conference’ - explore LGBTQ12St issues and start a Gay/Straight Alliance
